Rev. Fr John Patrick Ngoyi
ChairJohn Patrick Ngoyi, a Life Fellow of the Nigerian Conservation Foundation, the foremost environment NGO in Nigeria, has varied experience. He is the initiator and Director of the Justice, Development and Peace Commission, Catholic Diocese of Ijebu-Ode, a position he has held since 1989. John Patrick Ngoyi’s recognition of a dire need for Nigerians and Africans to have powerful and committing self-generated ideas to overcome the historical humiliation and re-invent their present and future in an ever globalizing and alienating world, made him to initiate a rights-based empowering development project built on gospel values. The choice of the philosophy underlying the project was equally informed by his conviction that the poor state of governance in Nigeria, the seemingly hopeless and irremediable poverty situation in the country and continent is human-made and can therefore be altered, through both individual commitment and institutional changes. Through his organization, Justice, Development and Peace Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Ijebu-Ode, he has constituted an entry point for networking and alliance formation for a right-based empowering development for Nigeria and other African countries.
